A particularly fine example of a Victorian tortoiseshell card case, with silver inlay decoration depicting floral garlands, foliate detail and rococo scrolls, with an undecorated tortoiseshell panel verso. The hinged cover releases when the circular button, positioned on the left-hand-side, is pressed, opening to reveal a red velvet lined fitted interior.

The central cartouche engraved in script, "C. Taylor".

The silver unmarked as expected.

English, c.1860.

Dimensions:

Height:10.2cm.

Length: 8.0cm.

Width: 1.2cm.

Condition:

No losses to either the tortoiseshell or the silver inlay. The exterior of the piece displays only minor wear generated from age and evidently, careful use. The hinged cover does have some slight lateral movement, but perfectly acceptable, in our view, given the nature of the object and material in question. A particularly fine example. The painstaking decorative elements in silver are a stand-out.
