A late eighteenth-century George III unmarked silver Neoclassical urn nutmeg grater, with hinged cover to the top and semi-fluted spherical form finial, the body sitting atop a rectangular pedestal form foot. The foot is also hinged and once the top cover is released, the body of the urn opens outwards to reveal the blue steel rasp contained within.

The piece is unmarked and it is noted that this form of urn or vase form nutmeg grater can be made in England, the Continent, and elsewhere, however given the construction of the hinges on the piece, in addition to its overall quality, we believe it is of English extraction and possibly English provincial.

England, c.1795.
