A rare Victorian unmarked silver novelty sewing compendium, modelled in the form of a walnut, the hinged cover opening to reveal a velvet and satin lined fitted interior, with hinged central section comprising:

  • Tape measure
  • Spool winder
  • Needle case with detachable cover
  • Twenty-eight apertures to act as pin holders

The tape measure with a winding mechanism, in full working order, the tape itself (likely replaced) extending to ten inches in length.

The walnut modelled realistically with an undulating, textured surface and complete with suspension loop.

The silver unmarked, however likely by a firm such as Sampson Mordan.

English, London made, c.1880.

Diameter: 4.3cm.

Height: 3.7cm.

Weight (gross, including all interior fitments): 64.1grams.

Excellent antique condition. All components in full working order. As mentioned above, we believe the tape measure itself has been replaced, the winding mechanism however is in working order.
